Fashion Trends I Got Over REAL FAST

Hello and happy weekend friends!

As I was scrolling through Ebay trying to find cheap steals (You know me) I stumbled across some trends thinking – Ugh glad that trends over with which gave me the light bulb moment of writing a blog post..about all the fashion trends I USED to love but now either hate or dislike. Have you ever looked back and gone..Why did I ever like THAT? Well today’s the day to show and tell baby because here comes some fashion trends that I got over REAL FAST.

*Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links – Just because I don’t like it anymore doesn’t mean you can’t?

Hi-Low Skirts/Dresses

Check out the latest trends that I now dislike and used to LOVE
2011 – actually wearing a navy tee and black skirt.

I was OBSESSED with this trend when it first hit stores. I thought – how convenient that I can wear a dress that’s long in the back and short in the front to give me some air flow. But in all serious-ness. After a few too many skirts, dresses (and one top) later…I can’t even believe I thought this was a good idea.

As I look back at photos I can understand why I fell into the trend but can also see why I fell out of it so quickly. I feel like I look so disproportional!

But don’t let me stop you from shopping the trend 😉

Lace-up flats

Now I still own a couple of pairs and I do admire them and think they are pretty. But I am NOT in love with this trend anymore – purely for functional reasons. In photos on Insta they look fabulous and so trendy, but try walking around all day constantly re-tying and re-adjusting if you aren’t a knot-tying goddess? This trend looks good on paper but doesn’t always work out for the best.

2012 – Back when I wore interesting clothes.

Peplum

I was very much OBSESSED with this trend – especially when I was bigger. Now that I’ve lost weight – I feel this look only accentuates the wrong areas and doesn’t really work. I still think this can work on some people – but regardless of weight – I got over the trend and felt it was doing more harm than good on people.

But don’t let me stop you from shopping the trend 😉

One-Shoulder

I remember being 12-13 yrs old in Fashion Fair (those were the days) trying on a red one-shoulder top and loving it. The year was 2001 and they were ALL THE RAGE. A few months later I hated the top and wished I never invested in such a ridiculous idea! I can’t explain what changed but I just couldn’t understand the big deal and never bought one again. Now that they have reared their one-shouldered heads – I’m still in the same thought pattern.

But don’t let me stop you from shopping the trend 😉

Fashion Trends I Don’t Like Series? Parts One and Two are just around the corner.

Silky Strapless Dresses

2013

This was one of my signature styles back in my night clubbing days (ex Surfers Club Rat represent!) I lived in these type of dresses when I went out and about and now I can’t stand them! Maybe it’s because I am now in my late twenties – or maybe it’s because the late 2000’s is now over – but nonetheless – It’s a trend I am happy to keep with my 19 year old self. Although at the time i loved it and think it looked good – You wouldn’t catch me wearing this style today. Give me a long strapless cotton maxi any day!

  • As much as I wanted too, the one-shoulder and strapless trends I never really got into as it’s so hard getting a good strapless bra, haha!

I still love peplum and asymmetrical hems though 🙂

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Thanks for linking up to the Top of the World Style party. I like high-low dresses. They are so chic

  • I agree with everything save the hi-low dresses. There’s just something about an asymmetrical hemline that sets my heart a-thumping 😛

  • I still quite like the high/low skirt thing if it’s done properly – but maybe that’s because I like my legs, and it’s a flattering style for my body shape! I love the look of the whole off the shoulder thing, but I hate wearing it – it just doesn’t work on me!

    • If done right I do think it rocks – maybe I more just hate it on me? 😛 Whatever works for you honey – flaunt it! 🙂 I agree OFS would look funny on me personally XX

  • Andrea

Great post! I sometimes take a look at some old pics of mine and just think out loud “What the heck was I thinking?!” lol. Some trends just aren’t flattering for my body and I still wonder what went through my mind. With the years, I’ve come to realize that I don’t need to have the latest trends, I just need what works best for me, that flatters my body and is comfortable (comfort above all, right?). I do remember I never really liked the peplum trend. I had one black peplum dress that my boyfriend gave me and I wore it ZERO times, lol. 🙂

    • Thanks Andrea!

Haha yes I agree 100% and that’s what I try to do more these days 🙂 XX

  • I’ve got a peplum (albeit a slight peplum) ivory blazer still in my wardrobe – wore it to my cousin’s wedding in the UK last year with a dress. It was the only way I was going to get into the trend, but by the time I bought it the trend was on its way out. It sat in my wardrobe for YEARS (tag still on & all) before I popped it on for another wedding. Maybe I should call it the wedding blazer lol…

I can’t remember if there’s been any trends I loved but no longer love, but I can tell you that I’m so over the off-the-shoulder trend right now…partly because I can’t wear it (wonky shoulders unfortunately) & because it’s been done to death this past spring/summer.

    Shell // The Novice Life

    • Aw no Shell! At least you now have a blazer for weddings? 😛 hahaha

And I completely agree about the OFS comment! XX
